Leo (Butch)'s Story
Hello Classmates of 1971,
Here is my update since graduating high School (I'm sure to leave something out). I enrolled at CCRI (Fall-71) and continued my dreams as a basketball player. Graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts in 1973. I then signed up for the Providence Fire Dept. completing 25yrs of service, retiring as a Captain. Within those twenty five years I returned to college (Prov College)and earned my degree, I also owned my own businesses in the fields of Satellite TV and Security Alarm Systems.Upon exiting the fire service I went back to college yet again for a degree in Computers. I then landed a fantastic job designing computer software for the banking industry. After a few years in this field, I was a casualty of the economic conditions of the time, thus leading to the downsizing of many companies thru out the state. I then decided to stay retired and do nothing but GOLF!! That too did not last long as I accepted an invitation to work for a private consulting firm that partnered with the RI state police managing and responding to highway emergencies thru out the state.Expanding with this firm, lead me to transfer into their HomeLand security division and getting certified thru the Govt. to conduct homeland security operations for various municipalities thruout the northeast. Getting burned out from all the travel, I opted to retire once again to my favorite sport of GOLF!!. Alright you guessed it...Expand for more
...I got enticed into yet another field of work; Currently I am licensed as a Residential home Appraiser and as a Real Estate broker licensed in RI & Mass. Oh no!! I left out the most important part of my life...I married my beautiful wife & best friend Colleen (McGurn) 26 years ago and we have been blessed with four beautiful children. My oldest son (Derek) after graduating college followed in my footsteps and joined the Providence Fire Dept. He is now awaiting the birth of his first child (July). My oldest daughter (Michelle)obtained her cosmetology license and became known as one of the best hair dressers in the state. She recently blessed my wife and I with our first grandson. My last two boys are considered "SPECIAL", you see in 1996 my wife and I flew to Gautemala and adopted our son Zacary (then 6 months old) and then in 1998 we adopted our other son Matthew (then 1 1/2 yrs old) from the RI system. To this day, you would swear they are twins. They have brought so much joy into ours lives thruout the years, I could not even begin to explain. Our thoughts at the beginning of the adoption process was "Let's give a child a life that they could never concevably have on their own" but in reality they provided us with so much more happiness and joy than we could have ever experienced without them. Well, I think I rambled on enough, hopefully I didn't put you to sleep?
